Ways to Brag on What God Has Done For America

Have you ever stopped to consider why celebrations and history that used to be God-focused are now not God-focused?

I think it is because we do not connect the where we are with how we got here. We’ve forgotten or simply not thought about what God did for us.

Are you prepared to change that?

The news has brought out recently that much has been omitted from our children’s history books. If we want our children and grandchildren to know what God has done for our country, we must take charge of that now. We must point it out.

As we approach July 4th, I challenge you to ask your family members what they know of our roots. Count how many times they can mention what God did in all of that.

On the Yale Law School website is a copy of the text of the Mayflower Compact from 1620.

It’s a very interesting and short document. It starts out with “In the name of God, Amen.” Later it goes on to say:

Having undertaken for the Glory of God, and Advancement of the Christian Faith, and the Honour of our King and Country, a Voyage to plant the first Colony in the northern Parts of Virginia

One of the main reasons those colonists were there was because they wanted freedom of religion. Many of them starved that winter. Squanto, an Indian, helped them. Bradford felt Squanto was sent from God. They later celebrated Thanksgiving to thank God for his provisions.

We have seen God’s hand all across our history – our freedom from England, the end to slavery, and God’s guidance in the drafting of our Constitution.

How now shall we brag, and should we brag? Yes, we absolutely should.

My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.
Psalms 34:2-3

Become familiar with God’s hand on our history. Share these stories with our children. Keep God in the forefront of our celebrations – including Thanksgiving and July 4th. Publicly boast on what God has done for America. Let’s give God the glory!

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
Revelation 4:11

Let’s also remember to continue praying for revival for our nation.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14

LIFE APPLICATION

Key Focal Verse:

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Revelation 1:8

Today’s challenge is to make a difference where you are standing this July 4th. Bring our God to the forefront of your celebrations. Give thanks for another year of freedom to worship our awesome God. Give thanks for His loving hand of protection upon our nation all these years. Give thanks for all He has done for you personally. Especially give thanks for Jesus.

May God bless America!
