Our National Leadership’s Attitude

“If you don’t tie our hands, we will keep stealing.”

There was a video posted recently – March 18, 2010 – with a US Congressman making that statement. I was really not clear by the snippet that was posted if he was in agreement with that or if he was making an observation based on the past.

I was totally disgusted when I watched that video clip. One verse came to my mind.

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
James 4:17

If it is so obvious to them that they are doing wrong, why are so many of them bent on doing it? We, as a nation, are in serious trouble.

One of the 10 commandments says:

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exodus 20:8

Congress doesn’t mind debating and voting on a Sunday when many Christians are worshipping.

What is wrong with this picture?

Greed and theft and covetousness and murder and on and on are in the headlines when we turn on the news.

We, as a nation have lost our focus. We are so busy worrying about ourselves, what we want to have, what we think we should have from the labor of others, what we think needs to be redistributed, and what we think we are entitled to. We are busy trying to legislate morality, and charity.

If instead we returned to a God focused society, a society where God was the center, where his 10 Commandments were followed, where spreading the Gospel was the goal, we would have morality and charity. Churches and faith-based organizations would take care of the needy. Families would do their part as followers of God.

We would have motivated people working the works God had planned for them. We would have children learning about God in our schools. Biblical principals would rule our hearts and our land because we would be a nation of true worshippers of God.

Keep praying with me for revival. We are in hard times. We need to return to God.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14

Let us not be so arrogant to think that a change in leadership will solve the entire problem. The leadership came from among us. At one point they were just like our children. They have sprung from a crop we as a nation have sown.

We need good praying Christian leaders, but it will take our returning to God as a nation and prayer to make an ongoing difference.

Please do pray.

LIFE APPLICATION

Key Focal Verse:

He must increase, but I must decrease.
John 3:30

Today’s challenge is to really wrap your mind around the root of the problem. We as a nation have put ourselves before God. Our nation has gone astray. God is not our God in the way He should be. He is not first in the hearts of many of our leaders, and he is not first in the hearts of much of our nation.

Please do continue to pray for revival. God must increase.
