Creator God Still Reigns

Have you ever been mad over the weather?

I saw an interview with a man who was stranded in an airport due to a volcano erupting. Flights were canceled for days. He said that at first he was mad. I thought to myself, “Who are you mad at?”

How could he be mad at the airport? It was dangerous to fly the planes into those clouds. The debris could tear the engine up and bring the plane down.

I began to wonder if he was mad at God or just mad in general because he was inconvenienced. After all, God is in control of the weather.

We tend to come and go as we please. Sometimes we act like we are in total control of our circumstances. We forget that God still reigns.

However, this story reminded me of the Tower of Babel.

And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.
Genesis 9:7

God said to spread out over the earth. Remember what they did instead?

And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
Genesis 11:1-8

As a nation, we are much like these people. We are going about our business. We are acting like we can do whatever we want. Just like those folks, we are prideful. Never the less, God was still in control. He confused their language, and scattered them across the face of the earth. This time He used one volcano to bring us to a halt.

How great is our God! He still reigns!

LIFE APPLICATION

Key Focal Verse:

And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:
Revelation 19:1

Today’s challenge is to really think about how we as a nation exhibit pride when we don’t want to display a cross, or the Ten Commandments. We display pride when we think we do not need a National Day of Prayer. We are the creatures trying to do away with the creator. Please continue to pray for revival.
