I went shopping, and the store did not have what I wanted to buy. Although I was not happy about that, my experience with an employee was enough all by itself to make me want to shop elsewhere. I found his lack of enthusiasm for his employer and his attitude toward me de-motivating and uninspiring.
Maybe you’ve run into that disgruntled employee yourself?
Here I was trying to do business with the company. I wanted to purchase goods from them. I didn’t really want to go to another place to shop. I was really trying to make the best of the situation. I was considering altering what I had planned to buy. I asked an employee a question.
His response to me was full of vinegar. He was unhappy with his employer. He was looking for a job. He felt the company only cared about profits. He could not wait to be working somewhere else. His tone with me was one of impatience. I felt like I was an imposition in his day.
In this economy, it would be a good idea to keep your job until you find another one. Running your mouth and potentially hurting the business of your current employer would not be the best way enhance job security. Business owners know that disgruntled employees cost the company money.
I don’t know if he is a Christian or not. If he is, and if he spoke to me about his church the way he spoke about his employer, I would not want to attend his church. If I were not a Christian, I may not want any part of his God either.
If I were his employer, and I had heard him talking, we’d have to have a chat. I could not permit him to continue grumbling and potentially cost the company business. When we as Christians grumble and complain instead of letting the world see Jesus in us, we tarnish the witness of what God is doing in our lives.
Jesus died for us. God wants to use us to reach others. We have so much to be thankful for each day.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28
If God allows something in your life – even something that you do not like or understand, you must believe that it was for a reason. To walk around grumbling because of what God has permitted to come your way speaks volumes to the world about your lack of faith in God being who He says He is. It’s just a way of saying that you don’t believe God, and that you know better than Him what you need in your life.

Today’s challenge is to ask God to show you what effect you are having on those around you. Be careful what and how you share and with whom. Ask God to reveal to you what you need to change to enable Him to use you.
