Feeling Defeated?

Perhaps you’ve had to be around someone that no matter what you did they complained. Maybe nothing you did was good enough to please them. Perhaps they lied about you and tried to get you in trouble. They may even have tried to cost you your job.

Have you ever thought to yourself, “I just can’t win”?

I know it is hurtful. It may seem like it is going on forever. I’ve been there myself. I remember trying to figure out what I had done to earn the contempt of those folks. I even went so far as to ask them on occasion. I never got an answer that made any sense, and you probably won’t either.

The truth is that if you cannot put your finger on why they are upset then most likely whatever petty little thing it is probably has more to do with them than it does with you. You just make a fun target for whatever reason. Maybe you are just in the wrong place at the wrong time, or maybe they just want to take the attention off themselves.

People can truly take many things away from you. If you let them, they can steal your joy. However, they cannot take everything.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:28-31

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39

Yes, God will often use folks to conform us to the image of Christ. He permits things in our lives for our good. If you let it, it will at times certainly make you feel defeated.

The truth is that people can do a lot of things, but they cannot separate us from the love of God. If you are saved, they cannot take eternal life away from you. They cannot take your faith. What you know in you heart to be true, you will always know.

When the going gets tough, you may be tempted to feel defeated. Don’t. Remember, “If God be for us, who can be against us?”

LIFE APPLICATION

Today’s challenge is to ask yourself if you are currently feeling defeated. Remember that according to Revelation, we – as Christians – win. Nothing can separate you from the love of God. Put your focus on God and what He would have you to do. Remember that God will never leave you. No one can separate you from His love. Whatever your challenge is, it will in time pass.

Realize your winning potential today by striving to become the person God would have you to be doing what He would have you to do each moment of your life.
