God’s Still Small Voice – Are You Listening?

Have you ever experienced a coincidence where you felt like you needed to do something, you did it, and because of that everything worked out? Have you ever not listened to that still small voice and regretted it?

When I was young, folks would call that a sixth sense. Have you ever stopped to consider that it was really God who was speaking to you?

As I was preparing for an event, I felt a strong urge to double-check some information that I had. This process not only confirmed what I thought to be true and gave me peace, but it also brought new insights. I went to the event confident that I had all the bases covered.

Amazingly enough during the afternoon of the event, I was confronted. I was totally startled that this very same information that I had felt such a strong urge to check came into play. Since God’s timing is always perfect, I knew that He was behind that urge to check. I was glad that I had listened.

Because of the insight I had gained while checking and my shock at being confronted, I paused before I answered. What I needed to say came to me. I give the credit to the Holy Spirit. I chose to go with that over what my initial response was going to be.

Although I cannot confirm my suspicions, I got the overwhelming impression that the person who confronted me was upset about something. I only say that because of the tone of her voice and the content of the conversation. I could be wrong.

As was pointed out to me later, she could have asked me the same question in a different tone, and I would have thought nothing of it. I would have taken it in stride.

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.
Proverbs 22:1

Since this lady’s tone raised a red flag with me, I went a step further. Little did she know, my phone has Internet access. Most likely before she made it to the next block I had entered the name on the nametag she probably forgot she was wearing into the search engine. In an instant, I knew the name of her company. In the future, I may need to find a company that provides those exact services. This interaction was indeed useful information . . . but I digress.

In the end, God had His hand on the whole exchange. He had provided for me, His daughter, in my time of need while I was trying to serve Him. Likewise, if you are a child of God, He will provide for you as you serve Him.

LIFE APPLICATION

Today’s challenge is to think about the times that you had that still small voice guide you. Did you listen? Did you ignore it? Did it work out for you? If it is God speaking, that voice will not ever be wrong.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
John 10:27-28

Remember, relationships are 2-way exchanges. As a child of God, it’s important to build your personal relationship with Jesus. Salvation is just the beginning of that relationship.
