Seek God’s Idea of the Perfect Job

Do you know what the perfect job is for you?

That might sound like a simple question. If you love what you do, perhaps you are right where God wants you – at the moment. If you don’t, you may be in training.

When I was little I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom. When I entered college, I thought I would like to be a computer programmer even though I had sold a few paintings along the way. While I was in college, I decided I wanted to do something with art. Then, more specifically, the world of photography and graphics caught my eye. I worked in that field for a while, but when I married Bob I had to move. I wound up being that stay-at-home mom that I really wanted to be from the start. As the kids got older, we started DrewsAnimals.com.

Other jobs have sprinkled my life’s journey. Although I was in my 40’s before I figured out what I was going to be when I grew up, God knew and He trained me all along the way for what He had planned for me.

A great example in the Bible would be the life of Moses.

Moses’ mother, in an attempt to save his life, put him in an ark of bulrushes, placed him in the water, and sent his sister to watch. The daughter of Pharaoh wound up with the child. His real mother nursed him until he was older, and she returned the child to Pharaoh’s daughter who named him Moses. Moses grew up with royalty. I am sure he learned a lot about Pharaoh and that lifestyle. We know that later he killed an Egyptian and fled to Midian where he took a wife and became a shepherd.

Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
Exodus 3:1-2

As Moses – who had lived as a prince and was now living like a shepherd – began to talk to God, he found out what God had planned for his life.

Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
Exodus 3:10

We know the people were freed after numerous trips to Pharaoh and many plagues.

If you don’t know what you want to be, have faith. God prepared Moses – from royalty to shepherd – to use him to free the people and lead them in the wilderness.

LIFE APPLICATION

Key Focal Verse:

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.
Psalms 37:23

Today’s challenge is to be patient if you aren’t sure about what God wants you to do with your life. Although you may not be able to see where God is leading – I’m sure Moses didn’t – keep following as God prepares you for what He wants you to do. He will train you to walk in the works He has prepared for you. Remember, the journey is also a part of it.
