Make Room for What God Has for You

Spring-cleaning is my least favorite thing in the world. It does not happen nearly often enough at our house, and it doesn’t always happen in the spring.

As I was dragging part of the contents of our rather large laundry room into the den, I could not help but think of something I had read in the past about making room for new undertakings.

Do you ever make room for new things?

Today’s theme seems to be “make room for the new.” A Bible study that I just completed today also talked about leaving the old behind. In my case, I am not leaving the old behind so much as I want to jump head long into where God has been leading. In short, I need more room to work.

In my segment entitled “Follow,” we read about Jesus telling the disciples to follow Him. Some followed immediately. One asked about burying his father first. We read that we need to take up our cross daily. Our focus on following was about putting God first, chasing after the things of God, and doing the right thing.

Follow can also refer to being led by the Spirit in your choices when it comes to direction. Much like the disciples had to drop what they were doing, often we have to change directions. It is not a matter of being able to easily look and say that one choice is better than the other, nor is it a matter of one choice being a sin. Of course, to not obey by following would be a sin. However, it is a matter of trusting God’s leading.

Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
2 Corinthians 5:6-9

The word labor here means to strive, or to be eager or earnest. We are to walk by faith as we strive and do all things as unto the Lord.

In my case, I am making room for that God given dream to blossom. Sure, I may have to part with some things that are not being used – or at least move them out of the laundry room. In the process, I hope to create the space I need to move toward making that dream a reality.

Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Psalms 37:4-5

When God gives you a desire to please Him, make room for that dream in your life and in your physical space.

LIFE APPLICATION

Today’s challenge is to remember that following takes action on your part. Walk by faith that what God has told you is true. Follow the leading of the Spirit in your life. Trust in God’s timing. Make room in your life for God to accomplish what He wants to accomplish through you.
