God. Israel’s Defender

I am not sure who first said it. Several folks have been given the credit for saying it.

Have you ever heard the definition of insanity? It’s doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

When it comes to Israel, I think the world is a bit like that.

As we come to an end of the 1 Samuel 15 series, I want to take note of one more very important point.

When Moses was leading the Israelites up from Egypt between 1445 & 1405 B.C., Amalek fought with them.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
Exodus 17:14

I Samuel covers the time frame of c. 1105 to 1011 B.C. That means it has been about 350 to 400 years more or less.

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt. Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
1 Samuel 15:2-3

God never forgets. Let us be warned. He has already told us what the future is concerning Israel.

And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in my face. For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel; So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.
Ezekiel 38:18-20

Again, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Israel is God’s chosen people, and God will defend Israel. Let us – as a nation – be smart enough to be on the right side of that equation! God did not play around with the Amalekites, and He won’t be playing around in the future when he defends Israel again.

LIFE APPLICATION

Key Focal Verse:

And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
1 Samuel 15:22

Today’s challenge is to pray that we always stand with Israel – God’s chosen people. Also, continue to pray for revival for our country. Pray 2 Chronicles 7:14. Pray that we will humble ourselves, seek God’s face, and turn from our wicked ways. Pray for God to hear from Heaven and forgive us. Pray for Him to heal our land.
